Me On Monday - October 12th

Me, I'm giving a Monday morning wave to Sian along with several other of the Monday wavers.  Meet & Greet with the others through Sian's site;  http://fromhighinthesky.blogspot.ca/

This is Canadian Thanksgiving Monday. A (bank) Holiday

So to the recap of last week & weekend / laid low with a nasty migraine; better now / some time was spent craft planning / time with a friend sitting in her new sunroom & thankfully there was some sunshine along with some treats. I am cat sitting for her over the Thanksgiving weekend  / work at the clinic was again more hours than normal / pulling out the coats, gloves & scarfs, checking that all buttons, zips work & are intact / finished up library books to return before due dates; no penalties for this reader / started new book, Sophie's World, a book about philosophy & religion / wonderful long phone chat with best friend far away / refusing to buy any chocolate bars & keep in the house ; resistance is futile or at least on my part / after watching Great British Bake Off wanting to make pastry (did not) / reminding myself about the no treats ban; going through yet again sugar withdrawal /changing up the walking route just a bit / enjoyed new to us TV; Raised By Wolves / also enjoying new series, Home Fires / happy news that a far flung friend is recovering from some surgery /shuffling through leaves / stocking up on disinfectant wipes for the clinic - cold/flu season has begun-patients if you are sick, stay home / another very early morning eye specialist appointment for Mr Man - staying positive / still not able to visit with my friend who fell off her horse; she is not doing well & her family have brought her Mom over from England to be with her; bones knitting back, it is the head injury giving concern / making corn casserole & broccoli salad as my offerings for a family Sunday dinner (only 1 sister, 1 brother plus us; rest of the local family traveling in Europe)
Ralph The Scarecrow in my garden

Thank you to Monday & all the rest of your friends, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday - I am Thankful to be able to greet & be with each one.

  1. I didn't realise it was a bank Holiday with you today. I hope you have something nice planned. The only good thing about a migraine is that lovely sense of relief you get when it goes away..a weird, good feeling. I should hunt out Sophie's World and half another go at it! I read about half of it years ago.

    Have a great week!

    1. Today was/is a day at home to putter about & make a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for the two of us. I am not sure yet about Sophie's World, I am finding a little dry ...

  2. I like your scarecrow Ralph. I hope your friend starts to recovers soon that is very worrying.

    1. Ralph scares away nothing but he has a charm all his own. My friend's doctors have said, time is what it is going to take. The horrible part is that they have said she may never recover enough to ride again!

  3. I didn't realise that there were different dates for Thanksgiving in different places. Hope you are having a good relaxing long weekend. Hope your friend shows signs of a full recovery soon, what a worry.
There's certainly a lot of coughs and sneezes around everywhere at the moment, let's hope you don't succumb to any germs brought in by patients at the clinic!

    1. In Canada we celebrate on the 2nd Monday of October and the Americans celebrate the last Thursday in November. We use to celebrate in early November but after World War I's Armistice Day, it was moved to October as not to conflict with November 11th Remembrance Day services.

    2. I didn't know that little tidbit about it. Always thought it was because of our shorter growing season.

  4. Enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend.

I do hope your friend recovers soon and that all goes well with the eye specialist for your other half. A worrying time for you.

    1. Thanks Eileen for the well wishes on both fronts. All possible body parts are crossed for positive outcomes. Thanksgiving weekend was a good one :)

  5. A belated Happy Thanksgiving to you. I really enjoyed Sophie's World when I read it, many years ago now. Just after my daughter was born, I think. Gosh! That is a long time ago!

    1. Thanks Fiona for the encouragement to continue with Sophie's World. It's funny how we can mark time with children and their age but not our own (lol).

  7. That's a great scarecrow! Sorry to hear about the migraine and your friend with the injuries and hoping there are improvements all round ... I admire your no sugar aim - I can manage until evening and then I'm raking around for a piece of chocolate. And yes, poorly people, please stay at home and don't infect the rest of us!

    1. Ralph thanks you for the compliment. Thankfully I have recovered, just hoping riding friend does. Last year Lady Ella did a sugar reduction/awareness & since then I have been really trying to cut down/out sugar. For me it's not chocolate but jube jubes - I hear them call to me.

  8. Good to hear about your world, I can relate to the sugar craving and withdrawals. So hard to resist. I think I may have Sophie's World on my bookshelf. Maybe I'll dig it out before our Thanksgiving holiday.

    1. Thanks Susanne. I am finding Sophie's World a challenge right now, one chapter engages me, next chapter looses me. I've been told that sticking with it will make me glad I did ...

  10. Whew! That is one busy hectic time you're having - waving from Sian's....weird that you're getting ready for winter whilst we're trying to fit into last years swim wear. JOKE. Haven't had it on for years. Yeah. Sugar. Chocolate....sigh....age is a bummer at times. It seems to sit on the hips!
